  Places to visit within half an hour  
Exeter - Woodbine Guesthouse is located in the center of the historic city of Exeter. Exeter Cathedral is a perfect example of English Gothic with the longest uninterrupted vault of its kind in the world. For shopping, browse the many colourful market stalls and unique boutiques hidden down Exeter's cobbled alleyways.

Honiton Antique and Bric-a-Brac Trail - Honiton, the antique town of the South West has over 38 shops to visit. Visit the museum and discover its world famous collection of lace. And do drop into the celebrated Pottery, renowned for its pre war Collard period collection.

Lyme Regis & Charmouth – the Jurassic coast is England's only natural World Heritage Coast. Try fossicking for dinosaus and ammonites for a few hours!

Gourmet Golf – Exeter is 25 minutes drive from nine great courses, suitable for both beginners and experienced players and all within easy distance of each other. Play the Championship course at Woodbury or visit Cornwall and play the famous Nicklaus course at St Mellion.

Great Local Restaurants to visit are the Drewe Arms at Broadhembury, The Masons Arms at Branscombe and the Jack in the Green at Rockbeare. All offer excellence of cuisine, friendly service and delightful countryside locations.

Otter Nurseries - just minutes from Exeter, this famous West Country Garden Centre is well worth a visit. A huge range of plants, accessories and gifts to take home.

Joshuas Farm Shop (opposite Otter Nurseries) - organic foods and treasures!

Sidmouth - for leisurely walks along the promenade by the sea and shopping with quaint individual shops, tea shops and traditional courtesy.

Beer - a fishing village with wonderful craft, art and pottery shop.

Fishing - From Sea to River. Beer, Lyme Regis or numerous stretches on the River Otter filled with Brown Trout.

Ashcombe Adventure Centre, near Dawlish - purpose built for great outdoor entertainment. Try your hand at Clay Pigeon Shooting (£25 per hour), Laser Clay Shooting (£7.50), Archery (£7.50) or Fishing (£4.50).

Forde Abbey near Chard - Founded by Cistercian monks over 800 years ago, Forde Abbey became one of the richest and most learned monasteries in the country. Alan Titchmarsh comments 'One of the greatest gardens in the West Country'. Don't take his word for it - visit and see for yourself!

The Medieval Castle of Powderham beside the River Exe. Dating back to 1390, its lavishly furnished Halls, State Rooms and old Victorian Walled Secret Garden are simply spectacular. And don't miss the Farm Shop - the best showcase for West Country fresh local produce.

Bicton Park Botanical Gardens - Devon's most magnificent Historic Gardens, and museum. Take a 25 minute relaxing train ride around the gardens - you'll love the breathtaking views.

The famous Eden Project - is a scenic 1 hour 40 minute drive away. So, be one of the first to visit the UK's number one attraction for the 21st century - 'the largest greenhouse in the world'. It's awe inspiring!

The Lost Gardens of Heligan - A 20 minute drive from Eden and described by the Times as 'The Garden Restoration of the Century'.

Trains, Trams and Boats - Take a day excursion with Paignton and Dartmouth Railway and River Link. Travel on the steam train from Paignton to Kingswear, then cross on the passenger ferry to explore Dartmouth before taking a one hour circular river cruise.

OR take the Seaton Tramway from Seaton to Colyton along the beautiful Axe Estuary.
  For the Foodies  
Northcote Manor, Burrington - enjoy lunch at this lovely 18th century house when visiting the North Coast.

The Drewe Arms at Broadhembury - set in one of the prettiest Devon villages, this pub has won an award for the Best Seafood Pub in Great Britain. For a mouthwateringly wonderful lunch, its a must for all seafood lovers!

The Carved Angel, Dartmouth - celebrated quayside restaurant with views over the harbour. Silky sauces, Devon Beef, fabulous Dartmouth fish.

There's also The Carved Angel Café, Ask, The Blue Fish Brasserie, Michael Caines Restaurant to name but a few. Don't miss The Galley, a mouth watering fish restuarant in Topsham!
